A little background on me: 
I grew up on a farm in the semi-desert of South Africa, and always only painted landscapes, mountains, because that was more or less all there was that really appealed to me for subject matter. The geology of the region is beautiful. But the sky was almost always just pale blue.
After moving to Hamburg in early 2010, I found the Baltic Sea my only escape, creatively, and began painting seascapes. It was a new threshold... there are no mountains... and this drew my attention toward the sky. The skies of northern Germany are often incredibly beautiful, and ever changing with the weather conditions.
And so I became passionately interested in the sky, the effects of light, the various moods of nature. I dearly missed the vast expanses of the semi-desert, and found the sky brought something of this concept back to me. The vastness and freedom.
Sometimes it is about the feeling of being there. Sometimes it is about a familiarity, an experience with nature we all share and recognise.
And I paint my interpretations of it. How it makes me feel.
Regarding media, I paint only in oil on canvas.
